Selling your car

Preparing your car   Advertise
To get the best price for your car you should ensure that it looks the absolute best it can.  A pot of touch up paint, polish and interior cleaner can be a worth while investment    There are a number of places to advertise your car e.g. local papers, free ads and online.  Take a look at the links here to see some of the more popular online sites to advertise your car

Get the paperwork ready   Know its worth
Make sure that you have all the paper work ready to show any potential buyers.  MOT, service history, invoices for new tyres etc.  All of this will make the buyer feel its a genuine bargain   Take a look at some of the online sites e.g. Parkers Guide to get a realistic view of the price of your car.  Compare with other similar models and most of all know what you want for it and the minimum you will accept
 Car History Check   Haggle
Something we would recommend if selling privately is to get a car history check .  This will help you to demonstrate that there is no hidden past to the car.  It needn't be expensive but could make the difference between clinching the deal there and then and giving the buyer a chance to walk away.    Don't be afraid to haggle.  Buyers will usually offer a low price to start with.  They will also often start to point out faults, don't get trapped into thinking that you'll be lucky to get rid of the car.  If in doubt walk away.

      Don't get conned
Accepting payment for a car.  Cash is great but check its not forged as with bankers drafts.  Building Society cheques are not as good as cash as they can be stopped.  Bank transfer can be a good way as you can confirm with your bank that the money is in the account before releasing the car.

Finally don't let the buyer drive away in your car for a test drive without you or untill you have been paid.  It might be the last you see of your car
